Obituary

Allan L. Edsell II was transformed (Phil. 3-21) on New Year's Day, 2021 at Baptist East in Memphis, TN where he had been treated for 23 days for brain cancer. He was the oldest of four boys born in 1947 to the late Allan L. Edsell and Katherine W. Edsell in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Edsell family has quite a history with Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. Allan has attended more than 50 Derbys. Allan earned his Eagle Scout as well as graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He loved his 49 year career as Sales Engineer specializing in conveyors and worked for various companies in various locations. He retired from Delta Material Handling in Memphis in March, 2018. Allan was an ordained Elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church as well as the Presbyterian Church USA. He was a graduate of Bible Study Fellowship and faithfully studied the Word. He was a very quiet but powerful witness to the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ. His love for golf and his golfing buddies was much more satisfying to him than his love and devotion to Vanderbilt sports (except for Vandy Boys Baseball which he truly loved).

Survivors include his soulmate and wife, Calotta Loyd Edsell of 33 years of marriage and 38 years in love; brothers, Patrick Edsell (Debby Amstadter) of Jupiter, FL; Michael Edsell (Joyce) of Ventura, CA; Timothy Edsell of Melbourne, FL; Niece and Goddaughter, Jennifer Louise Henderson (Seth); Nephew, Jake Edsell (Danielle); Nieces, Amy Edsell, Kate (Brad) Chisholm, and Taylor Edsell; two great nephews and four great nieces. Also survived by his PSK Fraternity brothers from Vanderbilt with whom he has maintained a close friendship.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Allan L. Edsell II Endowment at The Cumberland Presbyterian Church (8207 Traditional Place, Cordova, TN 38016) or Bible Study Fellowship (BSFINTERNATIONAL.ORG/SUPPORT/GIVE/MEMORIAL), or St. Jude Children's Hospital (stjude.org). Allan's neurosurgeon works with children with brain cancer at St. Jude.

Due to COVID restrictions, the Celebration of Life services will be delayed for at least six months. Details to follow at a later date.
