IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlotte Lea
Hammer
January 16, 1966 – December 21, 2025
Charlotte Lea Hammer, age 59, passed away on December 21, 2025. She was born
January 16, 1966, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Charlotte was a graduate of Raleigh Egypt High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Psychology from the University of Memphis (formerly Memphis State). Her
life's work was centered on caring for others. She served in the psychiatric ward at
Memphis Mental Health Institute, was Director of Social Services at Bright Glade
Nursing Home, and later worked for DHS as an eligibility counselor. During her time with
DHS, she met the love of her life, Albert Frederick Hammer IV.
Charlotte and Albert shared more than 20 years together and were married for 18 years.
He survives her.
She was a devoted mother to her son, Nick Hattley, and a loving grandmother to her
grandson, Isaak Hattley. She is also survived by her mother, Linda Lea Shockey. She
was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Shockey.
Charlotte found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved. She especially enjoyed
cooking Southern comfort foods for her family, creating meals that brought everyone
together. She loved to read and could spend hours wandering through Barnes & Noble,
happily lost among the shelves. As an ordained minister, she was honored to perform
weddings, sharing in the joy of others' beginnings.
The family will hold an intimate gathering to celebrate her life. Memorials may be made
to the donor's charity of choice.
