Obituary

David Han, 75, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024.  He was born in Shanghai, China November 30, 1948.  He was a cherished husband, devoted father, loving grandfather and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Yongxian Han and his mother, Suzhen Yan. David was a family man and his family was his world.  He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Di Qing Du, his son, Edward Han, his daughter-in-law Elena Han and his grandchildren Marcella and Matthew Han, who affectionately called him "Yaya", his brother Zuxi Han, and his two sisters, Zuying and Zuqing Han.  David was a very respected man who had many achievements throughout his life.  He qualified to compete in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, as a swimmer for China, but he was unable to compete that year due to a boycott.  David persevered and left his impact on swimmers around the world. After migrating to the United States, he graduated from the University of Alabama and worked as an assistant swim coach for Coach Don Gambril.  He went on to coach swimmers of all ages and backgrounds from young children to famous athletes.  He also worked as the Aquatics Manager for the City of Memphis until his retirement in 2015.  Some of David's biggest passions were cruising and traveling. He was blessed to visit many countries throughout his life.
