IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Greg
Commer
December 22, 1964 – April 21, 2025
Greg Commer loved to travel and loved to laugh. He would tell people he had circumnavigated the earth 3 times, both in one continuous trip and in milage from other trips. Greg had been to 49 of 50 states and visited 6 of 7 continents.
Greg was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1964 to I.M. "Peewee" Commer and June Davis Commer. Peewee's career with CottonBelt/Southern/Union Pacific Railroad kept this family moving about the country while Greg was growing up. On one of the moves, Greg's older brother made his home in the Bay Area of Northern California. And on one of the moves, Greg met his future bride in Louisiana. Whether Greg was traveling for his Dad's career, his own career, or for family pleasure, he really enjoyed coming home. And he had made his home in Memphis, where his friends, family, and career-family always welcomed him back. Greg was blessed with 2 wonderful daughters who kept him busy, as well as his years of service to St. Francis of Assisi's parish religious education for 13 years. He always received more than he gave through his years of service of faithfully leading young souls to Jesus. His joy was infectious, and people flocked to him. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye! Greg's love of travel is leading him to the ultimate travel destination….Heaven, which is his ultimate home-coming where he will be welcomed into the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ, into the Kingdom of our Holy Father.
Lord,
Greg is gone now from this earthly dwelling and has left behind those who mourn his absence. Grant that we may hold his memory dear, never bitter for what we have lost nor regret for the past, but always in hope of the Eternal Kingdom where you will bring us together again.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Greg will be missed, and he leaves many loved ones behind. He is survived by his mother, June Davis Commer; his wife, Jeannie Broussard Commer; his daughters, Annie Commer and Gracie Commer; his brother Jay (Sonja) Commer. He also leaves several nieces, nephews: Jennifer and Brennan Gaffey, Christina Commer, Chris and Kaylee Gregg, Megan Funderburk, and his beloved father-in-law Leland Broussard, as well as many loved and cherished cousins, aunts and uncles.
Greg's funeral will be Friday, May 2, 2025, visitation: 10 am Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Father Hood, Celebrant. Reception to follow: 11:30 a.m. at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8151 Chimneyrock Blvd, Cordova, TN 38016. Interment will be in Ritchie Cemetery, Lake Charles, LA.
