Obituary

GREGORY (HONKYTONK) ALAN LEHMKUHL, 76, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family September  21, 2024.  He was born May 9, 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his companion of nineteen years, Patricia Lynn Pierce who, on occasion would keep him company on some of his long hauls, and two canine companions, Smoky and Peanut, whom he loved dearly.

Gregory was a career cross-country truck driver over an accumulated 51 years as an independent owner/operator.  He also drove for Kenny Adams Trucking out of Arkansas.

He drove long hauls all over the United States. His road name was Honkytonk.  He was affectionately known as Papaw to his "baby girls" (granddaughters) who he frequently

enjoyed spending time with, taking them shopping, and searching for treasures at flea markets and yard sales.  He also enjoyed relaxing in his recliner while watching TV. Gregory was a kind-hearted, loving man who enjoyed life to the fullest.

Gregory is survived by a large and loving family, his daughters Jennifer (Julio) Moreno, and Penny Duncan; his sons Jerry, Chris and Billy Pierce and Greg Johnson; his granddaughters, Avril Rodriguez, Kelly Ramos, Sophia Moreno, Emillia Moreno as well as sixteen more grandchildren; and his long-time friend, Marcus Jones.  Marcus was Gregory's best friend.  They talked on the phone every day and gave each other advice on trucking.  They sometimes ran together on hauls. And continued their daily contact after Gregory retired from the trucking business.  Gregory's family and friends will celebrate his well-lived life Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Harmony Church of Bartlett, 6740 St. Elmo Road, Bartlett, Tennessee with visitation at 4:00 p.m. and memorial service at 5:00 p.m.  Bartlett-Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation Center is honored to serve the family of Gregory Alan Lehmkuhl; bartlettheritage.com; (901) 372-5555.
