JAMES R. THOMPSON, 96, passed away March 5, 2022. He was born December 12, 1925, to Walter and Hattie Thompson in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Virginia Nell Thompson, his parents, a brother, Roy, and two sisters, Hazel and Gladys, a daughter-in-law, Lee Thompson, and a grandson, Sgt. Scott Thompson. He is survived by his sons, Mitchell, David (Sandra), and Kevin (Regina); brother, Huey, and sisters, Hilda, Shirley, Ruth, and Alice; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James had several careers over his lifetime. The one he was most proud of was his time spent in the US Navy. He retired in 1964 with twenty-one years of service. After retiring from the Navy, he went on to work for W R. Grace Chemicals, Memphis Shelby County Schools, and Leawood Baptist Church as the Financial Secretary. He was a long-time member of Leawood Baptist Church. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 14th at Leawood Baptist Church, 3638 Macon Road, Memphis with a funeral service to follow at 11:00. Mr. Thompson will be laid to rest beside his wife at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
