Joan H. Florence passed away in her hometown of Bartlett, TN on March 21, 2023, surrounded by her children. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen and William E. Laycock, brother William "Bruce" Laycock, and spouses Charles Dean Brunjes and Charles (Chuck) Florence. Joan was born in Cadillac, Michigan in 1943. Her family moved to Marquette, MI when she was in grade school. Joan went on to complete her schooling by graduating from Northern Michigan University.

Joan and her family settled in Shelby County, TN in 1976 (?). There she began her teaching career and spent more than three decades teaching at Altruria Elementary school in Bartlett, TN. Joan deeply loved her countless dogs and spending time with her many close friends. Any spare time she had was spent working outside in her yard and gardens. Although she resided in Bartlett for the majority of her life, she always believed in her heart that Michigan was her home.

She is survived by her son Ryan Jose (Meg) of Hernando, MS and their two children (Bailey, Auburn) and daughter Amy Romanoski of Wentzville, MO and her five children (Tyler, Ashlyn, Katie, Jillian, Blaine) and two grandchildren (Roland, Kieran).

There will be a celebration of Joan's life later this Spring.
