IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence "Larry"
Hamilton O'Brien
March 29, 1939 – July 19, 2021
Lawrence H. "Larry" O'Brien, age 82, formerly of Paducah Kentucky passed away Monday, July 19, 2021. Born to Lawrence & Lenida King O'Brien he was the oldest of four boys. William O'Brien, Robert O'Brien & James O'Brien. In his youth he spent his summers playing sandlot ball, attending church events, school dances, riding horses on the family farm & helping do mechanical work at his dad's Ford dealership. After graduating in 1958 from Lone Oak High School, he followed his National Guard studies by enlisting in to the Army that same year. He was honorably discharged with an injury in 1961. While actively continuing his military duties he was assigned to work in the city of Memphis Tennessee, thereafter he worked for Container Corporation of America. Additionally, he met his wife Melba Love O'Brien. His family grew to include three children & two step children. Leisa Love Irwin, Tana Love Noe, Mark O'Brien, Rod Bumgarner & Mal Bumgarner. He was known proudly to his six grandchildren & five great grandchildren as "Pie" He and Melba were long time active members of Willow Oaks Pentecostal church, where she preceded him in death August 2004. In her final days Larry was intensely devoted to Melba Love despite her failing health. After Melba's passing his unwavering faithfulness carried on in to his second marriage to Mary Kay O'Brien where his family grew again to include her daughter Sandra Steele-Boyd. They began their life together at Christian Heritage Church where he was actively engaged and participating in the 615 Missions Trips. He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence & Lenida King O'Brien, his brother Robert O'Brien, stepson Mal Bumgarner & his second wife, Mary Kay O'Brien. Larry was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grand father and great grandfather; leaving a legacy of being good natured and kind hearted. His biggest reward was spending time with his family and sharing his love for Christ always believing that love never fails and declaring that "Jesus is coming soon!" The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Christian Care Center of Memphis and Baptist Trinity Hospice. Visitation is 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 27 at Harmony Church of Bartlett, 6740 St. Elmo Road, Bartlett, TN with funeral service at 2:00.
