IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loretta Cheryl
Stancil
October 10, 1952 – July 29, 2023
Loretta Cheryl Moore Stancil went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 29, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Memphis, TN on October 10, 1952. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, David F. Stancil, and her parents Howard O. and Betty Ruth Harris Moore. Loretta is survived by her brother Ricky Moore, son Anthony (Michelle) Stancil, grandchildren Isaac, Lilly, and Emma Stancil, niece Kristen (Nicholas) Galiano, nephews Eric (Paige) Moore and Sean Moore, Mark Stancil and Stephen (Jessica) Stancil, sister-in-laws Monica Hern and Dixie (Charlie) Horton, great niece Caroline Stancil, and great nephews Wesley Stancil, Nate Stancil, Caden Moore, and Bennett Moore. Loretta's extended family reaches far beyond her aunts, uncles, and cousins to her friends that she loved deeply. Loretta was a member of Leawood Baptist Church and later Leawood East Baptist Church where she served faithfully in the youth and adult choir, preschool area, singles department, youth department, adult ministry, VBS, and participated in several musicals. Her love of theater and history led her into education and to Briarcrest Christian School where she taught for 46 years. Throughout her years there she taught 7th and 8th-grade history, high school speech and drama, and directed several plays and musicals. As Mrs. Stancil, she won several accolades for her dedication to her students. But her greatest joys were found in being Nana and Aunt Loretta. Loretta loved to serve others and always looked for ways to help. She was a steadfast prayer warrior and enjoyed studying scripture. Her wisdom, laughter, and fun spirit will be deeply missed.
"For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven
and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be
strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell
in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have
strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height
and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be
filled with all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3: 14-19
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Leawood East Baptist Church.
