Marshall grew up in Leachville, Arkansas and attended Arkansas State College. He married the love of his life on February 14, 1960, and they recently celebrated their 66th anniversary together. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1960-1965. He moved to Memphis to began a career in finance and insurance sales. He retired from American National in 2005 after 25+ years of faithful service to clients he truly cared for. The last 2 decades of his life were focused on spending time with Nelva, enjoying every sporting event of his grandchildren, playing golf every chance he could, playing cards and checkers with anyone willing to challenge him, and watching basketball, whether it was University of Memphis or his favorite local high school, FACS. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles with the Honda Gold Wing Club in his earlier years. He was an active member of Bartlett Woods Church of Christ in Arlington,Tennessee.

Poppy, as known by many, was so easy to love as he never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest. He was a family man and enjoyed spending time playing games with his grandchildren and many friends! He was larger than life and able to brighten up any room, especially while telling his many jokes and playing silly tricks on you. The Lord allowed him to fully live life until the day He called him home. He will be so missed by us all.
